Font: Alps

A display typeface inspired by letterings of a Japanese artist, Shinro Ohtake.

Font: 156e

A retro style sans-serif typeface.

The project is inspired from the shapes of numbers which were on the street in Sao Paulo, mainly in Higienópolis.

Basically I started from the numbers(1, 5 and 6) then tried to apply characteristics to other letters.

The area where I investigated was visually retro futuristic and elegant too.

So I tried to make the typeface match the atmosphere with slim uppercase and compact and spatial lowercase.

 

Binding experiment: Abend specimen

It was a project in bookbinding course.

The idea was to experiment the relation of expression/perception of pages and bookbinding.

The book has 2 parts; one part has folded paper which includes a phrase crossing 8 pages, and another part has normal booklet bindings.

I tried to express a sequence with a continuation in first part with a folding paper and a separation in second part with normal booklets.

I made a white and a black book used different paper and print but the contents are same.

Freepaper: SHITPAPER

A Barcelona based free-paper.

It is a print-media which is focused on the use in the toilet.

The content is related in the activity in the toilet, and the main topic of the first issue is thinking. The text is written by Sonia Fernández Pan. (esnorquel, una palabra por dia, tubealloys)

It can work as a small window in toilet after reading as many bathroom in Barcelona are small and have no windows.

The image is inspired by their electronic and melancholic sound.

I made a gridded paper screen combined the chinese letter four four times.(Left image)

Letters appear when some rooms are shielded.

Any letter can be drawn but the S is approved this time.

For a concert series in Barcelona / 2011

Images are constructed by hand-drawn or hand-made figures to get close to the undrground sense.

Tried to have a form of the graphic element which makes sense with the dates of events.

 

 

 

Font: abend

Logos and typefaces for abend and abendkollektiv.

abend is a techno music dance party in Tokyo which have been since 1999.

abendkollektiv is their label since 2011.

The typeface inspired from 30s-40s German type in newspaper titles.

Irregular pattern generator

A project of making patterns with typing.

Each typed letter corresponds a piece of a pattern, so any kind of text generates an irregular pattern.

There are 3 versiones.

Samples are layered by all caps and small caps versions with same text. (Sample 1 and 3: with all caps and small caps, sample 2: with all caps)

 

 

 

Font supplement: Orator supplement

Small case letters and old style figures to set with a monospaced typeface Orator.
Although the concept of Orator was originally made to set with Caps and small caps to have clear letter shapes for IBM typewriter, against its concept, the idea of this project is to set in small case letters to use for some sentences, more than words. We don’t read so much text set with small caps nowadays, so it can be difficult to read a text set only in small caps even it has clear letter shapes.

Original Slanted style is literally just slanted. Slanted letters in this supplement are refined shapes.

An imitated typeface of title letter style of a movie The War of the Roses(1989 USA).

The project is in progress. Many alternative letters are being tested.
